Bob Russell Wins Award

Congratulations are in order for Texian Legacy Assn. member and Texas Army Colonel Bob Russell for receiving the Texas Army award for Meritorious Service for his work with school children in the Fredericksburg area. The award was presented by Commanding General of the Texas Army, Carroll Lewis, at the San Jacinto Monument on April 21, 2002 and reads:

From the Executive Director, Board of Directors and membership of the Texian Legacy Association, "Well done, Bob!" 

TLA Executive Director Emeritus, Charlie Yates, becomes "Sir Charlie"!

On April 21, 2002 at the San Jacinto Monument, TLA Executive Director Emeritus and Texas Army Colonel, Charlie Yates was inducted into the Historical Order of the Knights of Texas by General Carroll Lewis, Commander of the Texas Army. The honor was bestowed for his work on the annual March 2nd Celebration in Austin and for his work in Texas history. The accompanying citation reads:


Know Ye All, By These Presents:
Recognition of Undaunted Patriotism and Service
To the State of Texas
Col. Charlie Yates
Is Hereby and Hereon Proclaimed and Invested into
The Knighthood of the Historical Order of the
Knights of Texas
at the San Jacinto Battleground

Elizabeth Glidden received Pioneer Woman Award

On March 1, 2008 at the Boothe Ranch at Cypress Mill, Elizabeth Glidden received her certificate as a Texas Pioneer Woman. The accompanying citation says it best, and reads:


The Texas Pioneer Woman Award is given to honor women who exude
the true Spirit of the Lone Star State. The recipient has proved
through her actions and attitude that she represents the very essence
of what the world expects of Texas ... honor, virtue, character, hard work,
pride and diligence to any task. The award is given in memory of
Nellie Marie Boothe Hampe, a woman who, as it is said in Texas,
lived by the code.
